When thinking about the furniture for the new tech room I was reminded of a favourite poster designed by Kathy Schrock in 2012. It revises the cogs of the Cognitive processes of Bloom's Taxonomy.
Mobile technology allows students to remember, understand, apply, analyse and evaluate their learning. Bringing all the elements together allows the students to be creative.
The layout of the diagram also reminded me of another goal for the room - to create a collaborative space that could be used for small as well as large group work.
Finding the puzzle piece furniture provided the opportunity for technology users to work individually, or to collaborate in twos or threes. Larger groups could also be created by combining tables. Different height tables also allowed for four tables to be stacked on top of each other to clear the floor space for large group access.
All the chairs in the room can be adjusted to the different heights of the users and some ball chairs are also available. A sofa and a few beanbag cubes also allow students to personalise their working environments when appropriate.
