The month of May always brings new life to the lower school with tadpoles becoming frogs, butterflies emerging, flowers appearing in the gardens and chick's eggs arriving. This exciting time is explored fully in first grade, with technology supporting the students in exploring and recording what is going on in the world around them. Pic Collage has proved to be an easy and effective recording tool with a walk in the gardens producing some beautiful posters of the plants.
It was the app of choice when assessing the student's knowledge of the Life Cycle of Frogs. They were asked to produce a poster that would help a new student to the classroom understand the different stages they had observed, recorded and researched.
Last year we recorded our chicks hatching and enjoyed the reaction from students and the wider community., With arrival in the school of the iPad air and its great camera, we decided to use iStopMotion again and set it up to record an image, one frame every 10 seconds. The students were so excited to arrive in the morning to view the recording and see three chicks awaiting them - we even set the chicks to music and we hope you like the results! Where would we be without technology to record and review the world around us?
