Student Showcase - 'Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity'
Since the introduction of the iPad 2 in 2011, ACS Hillingdon students have used them to support all aspects of their learning. They have also looked to use technology in a wider setting to encourage communication and co-operation across the grade levels, provide critical thinking opportunities beyond the traditional use of technology and celebrate creativity. In 2013 the Advanced Technology Club (ATC) was created. This was a group of motivated Tech savvy high school students under the direction of Marc Smith their Integrationist. Their aim, to explore the use of technology beyond specific devices. One of their first projects was to create an iPad wall with 100 devices able to display a single pre-recorded message. On completion, two lower school students were inspired to create - with a little help - their own wall made of 20 iPads. This lead to an on-going relationship between students at either end of our school. The following year, the ATC created a new improved curved Wall 2.0 made with 48 iPads but able to receive real time images - even from FaceTime! The lower school used the Wall to display their investigation into the microscopic world around ACS Hillingdon. This was made possible by attaching ProScopes to iPads and sampling the natural and man-made worlds. Over 700 images were collected and an original art piece was also created. Here are four videos showcasing these projects - we hope you enjoy them.
